Qatar warns diplomatic window closing as regional tensions escalate
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has warned that the opportunity for a diplomatic resolution in the region is rapidly closing, amid escalating tensions and attacks on critical infrastructure.
“We are close to the point where the situation in the region could spiral out of control," ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari cautioned, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Al-Ansari stressed that the ongoing hostilities are detrimental to all parties involved.
“There are no winners if this war continues,” he said, highlighting the long-term risks of protracted conflict.
The spokesperson also condemned attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure, stating that “attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure by any party should not be accepted.”
Addressing concerns over regional maritime corridors, al-Ansari emphasised the importance of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.
“Hormuz is a natural strait, not a canal, and all countries in the region have the right to use it freely,” he said.
