Rabid lynx attacks child at summer camp near Russia’s Ufa Video
A rabid lynx attacked a child at a children’s sports camp near the Russian city of Ufa.
The wild animal emerged from a nearby forest and entered the grounds of the Ufa Falcon sports camp, where it attacked a 12-year-old girl, biting and scratching her. Camp staff responded quickly, pulling the child to safety and preventing further harm, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Witnesses said the lynx then displayed abnormal behaviour, including eating snow and showing signs of distress and suffocation—symptoms consistent with rabies.
Emergency medical workers, police officers, environmental inspectors, and specialists from a wildlife rehabilitation centre were dispatched to the scene. The animal was later captured near the camp but died shortly afterward. Experts said the lynx was suffering from advanced rabies and died before it could be euthanised for examination.
The injured girl is reported to be in stable condition. Her wounds were described as minor, and she is currently undergoing preventive rabies treatment and remains under medical supervision.
