Russia accuses EU of plotting election interference in Armenia
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has claimed that the European Union is preparing to interfere in Armenia’s upcoming elections, scheduled for June 7, using what it described as a Moldova-style scenario.
According to a statement cited by RIA Novosti, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the EU plans to deploy mechanisms and technologies similar to those used in previous electoral campaigns in Moldova.
“For this purpose, the European Union will use, as if copied, mechanisms and technologies tested during past electoral campaigns in Moldova,” the statement said.
The ministry added that evidence of Brussels’ alleged involvement includes a partnership program with Yerevan focused on “countering hybrid threats.”
It also warned that Armenia’s engagement with Western partners could lead to negative consequences for the country, which Russia said it would prefer to see as a strong and independent state.
