Russia expels 35,000 migrants since February
Around 35,000 foreign nationals have been expelled from Russia since February this year for breaching immigration laws, Russian officials have confirmed.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma, reported that the Federal Bailiff Service carried out the removals over the first eight months of 2025, targeting individuals who were in the country illegally, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Volodin noted that, as of September 1, the registry of controlled persons—tracking migrants residing unlawfully in Russia—contained around 770,000 entries, roughly one-third of whom are women and children.
He reminded that all migrants who have not regularised their status are required to leave Russia, providing details of their departure date, route, and destination.
Failure to comply could result in deportation accompanied by a fine, with a five-year ban on re-entry.
In addition, from October 11, undocumented migrants are prohibited from registering marriages or divorces, enrolling children in schools or nurseries, obtaining driving licences, operating vehicles, or opening bank accounts.
