Russia's Medvedev predicts Poland's actions will instigate World War III
Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, issued a warning that recent actions by Poland might lead to a direct confrontation between Poland, Russia, and Belarus, potentially sparking World War III.
According to a column written by Medvedev for the Rossiyskaya Gazeta publication, he voiced concerns about Russia's readiness to engage in direct conflict with NATO members, particularly in support of Ukraine, and has accused Poland of seeking regional dominance.
"Poland's own military buildup and Polish military presence in Ukraine may trigger a direct confrontation between Warsaw and Belarus and Russia", Medvedev wrote. "In this case, the allied group will give an appropriate response to prevent threats that stem from the evil ambitions of the Polish establishment." He accused Poland of aiming to dominate the region by controlling the states between Warsaw and Moscow.
Medvedev also touched on the historical relationship between Russia and Poland, criticized Polish leaders for their "evil ambitions", and suggested that members of the European Union hold a "poorly-concealed hatred" for Poland, potentially destabilizing the EU.
"Now the leading EU states consider the Polish authorities to be malicious upstarts who selfishly use all its institutions solely for their own selfish purposes, without contributing anything to the European treasury", Medvedev wrote.
"It can be assumed that ultimately this will contribute to the destabilization of the EU structure itself, up to a full-fledged showdown within the 'friendly' European family and even the collapse of the European Union through the fault of Poland", the former Russian President wrote.
