Russian peacekeepers: between landmines and diplomacy
According to the statement of the President of Azerbaijan, Prime Minister of Armenia and President of the Russian Federation of November 10, the term of stay of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Azerbaijan will end in 2025.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada made the statement commenting on Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov’s interview with Izvestia newspaper, during which he that the date of the next round of talks between Moscow and Baku on the Russian peacekeeping contingent is being agreed upon with the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Caliber.Az reports.
"After the anti-terrorist activities carried out by Azerbaijan last year, a necessity had arisen for regular meetings and discussions on the activities of the peacekeeping contingent and its needs. At the same time, taking into account that the Armenian Armed Forces over the last 3 years have been large-scale mined the territories of Azerbaijan, where peacekeepers are stationed, as well as taking into account the problem of unexploded ordnance on the territory, there is a need for consultations on taking joint efforts to eliminate these threats," Hajizada said.
