The ministry added that such actions violated international law, norms, and the principles of good neighbourliness, while contributing to further escalation in the region.
Riyadh also expressed full solidarity with Türkiye and Azerbaijan, including their governments and peoples, and reaffirmed their right to defend their security, airspace, territorial integrity, and citizens. The statement further praised efforts by both countries to prevent escalation and maintain regional security and stability.
According to Azerbaijani reports, the incident occurred around midday on March 5, when unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iranian territory struck civilian sites in Nakhchivan. One drone hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another crashed near a school in the village of Shakarabad. The strikes caused damage to infrastructure and left two civilians injured.
