Slovak PM condemns idea of sending troops to Ukraine
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has firmly rejected the idea of deploying Western troops to Ukraine, reaffirming that Slovakia will not contribute military personnel to the conflict under any circumstances.
Fico’s position was conveyed to the Slovak National Council during a parliamentary session by Defence Minister Robert Kalinak, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“I consider the proposals by Western European leaders, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, to send soldiers to Ukraine to be irresponsible and dangerous,” Kalinak quoted the prime minister as saying.
The statement was a clear rebuke of recent suggestions by some Western leaders that NATO countries could consider more direct involvement in Ukraine’s defence efforts.
“Slovakia will not take part in any military missions in Ukraine,” Kalinak emphasized. “Our government will always protect the safety of our people and advocate for peace.”
