Slovenia ready to host Russia-Ukraine peace talks
Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob stated that it would be an honour for his country to host direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv aimed at resolving the Ukrainian conflict, according to the Slovenian government press service.
“Slovenia would be honoured if both sides accepted the invitation to hold peace talks in Slovenia — in the spirit of our foreign policy commitment to peace, which we have upheld since gaining independence,” Golob said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The Slovenian prime minister also compared the potential peace talks in Slovenia to the first meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President George W. Bush, which took place on Slovenian soil in 2001.
On May 11, 2025, President Putin invited Ukraine to resume peace talks in Türkiye, referencing the 2022 draft agreement. President Zelenskyy responded positively, stating his willingness to meet Putin in Türkiye on May 15, provided a full and lasting ceasefire begins on May 12.
