Some 85 people killed in Nigeria church attack
Some 85 people have been killed in a militant attack on the Catholic Church of St Francis in southwestern Nigeria.
The public leader of the Yoruba people, Banji Akintoye, made the statement, Gazeta.ru reports with reference to Nigerian tribune newspaper.
The incident occurred in Ovo District of Ondo State. Armed militants broke into the church during the morning service and opened fire on parishioners, and also tried to capture a priest. He resisted. After that, the attackers threw a bomb at people.
Akintoye said that 85 people were victims of the attack and called on the governor of the region to "immediately declare a state of emergency".
Earlier it was reported that some parishioners were abducted, this information has not been officially confirmed.
