Axios: US will arm NATO for Ukraine regardless of Russia talks

The United States is preparing to continue supplying weapons to NATO countries for Ukraine, even if diplomatic negotiations with Russia fail to achieve their intended outcomes. This comes amid growing uncertainty over the direction of U.S.-Russia talks and the high-stakes approach of the Trump administration toward the conflict.

According to sources cited by Axios, an unnamed senior U.S. official confirmed that “even if diplomatic efforts do not succeed, Trump will continue selling weapons to NATO countries for Ukraine.”

The official stressed that the perception of Trump’s rhetoric being at times pro-Russian is misleading, explaining that the U.S. president believes such messaging could help facilitate a potential deal with Moscow.

“He is still angry at Putin. He has really had enough,” the White House source added, highlighting the administration’s frustration with Russia despite any tactical public statements that might seem conciliatory.

Officials noted that the prevailing view within the Trump administration in recent months is that the United States and its allies have the capacity to weaken the Russian economy within a matter of months if decisive action is taken.

“If he has to choose a side, Trump would start by striking at the Russian economy,” the senior official said.
