On February 28, Israel and the United States carried out a series of strikes on the territory of Iran. Major cities and military infrastructure sites came under attack, including military bases and command centres. In response, Iran launched missile strikes on the territory of Israel, as well as on several other countries in the region — including facilities and airspace in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria.

Iranian state media reported that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of the strikes. According to official statements from Tehran, the attack occurred while he was at his working residence.

As of March 9, the situation in the region remains extremely tense. The sides continue exchanging statements, and new episodes of escalation are being recorded. Information is being updated as new reports emerge.

A U.S. military base near Erbil airport in Iraq's Kurdistan region has been targeted in a drone attack, security sources said, Reuters reports.

In Baghdad, the C‑RAM defence ‌system ⁠also intercepted rockets and drones targeting a U.S. diplomatic facility near Baghdad international airport, according to police sources.

The Israeli Air Force, acting on IDF intelligence, completed an additional wave of strikes on Iranian regime infrastructure, the army has reported.

“As part of the strikes, the IDF struck a rocket engine production facility and several long-range ballistic missiles launch sites that were prepared for launch toward the State of Israel.

The headquarters of the Iranian regime's regional corps, the Internal Security forces command center of the Iranian regime in Isfahan, an additional base used by the IRGC and Basij, and the IRGC's police headquarters.

The Internal Security and Basij forces constitute part of the Iranian armed forces that are subject to the Iranian terror regime, and have for years advanced terror activity. The forces constitute a central arm in the repression of the Iranian civilian population and are responsible for the use of brutal and systematic violence against it,” the statement said.

Over the past 24 hours, Bahrain has intercepted 9 Iranian missiles and 16 drones, BNA reports, citing a statement from the General Command of the Bahrain Defense Forces.

According to the military, since the start of hostilities, a total of 95 ballistic missiles and 164 unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the kingdom have been destroyed.

Ali Hashemi, the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Isfahan, was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes.

According to Iran International, this was announced on Sunday evening by the acting head of the Isfahan Provincial Foundation for Martyrs and Veterans Affairs.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has carried out the 30th wave of Operation “True Promise-4,” Tasnim News Agency reports, citing the IRGC press service.

According to the report, the operation, codenamed “Ali is the Wali of Allah,” targeted US military bases in the region and northern Israel.

During the operation, liquid- and solid-fuel missiles — Khorramshahr missile, Fattah missile, and Kheibar missile — as well as strategic drones were used.

The IRGC stated that the operation was carried out with “100 per cent success.”

As a result of an Iranian drone attack on Sitra Island, 32 people were injured. Local media, citing the Bahrain Ministry of Health, report that four of the wounded, including children, are in serious condition.

It is noted that the drone struck the centre of a residential area. Footage has also appeared online showing strikes on other facilities in Bahrain, including an oil refinery.
