On February 28, Israel and the United States carried out a series of strikes on the territory of Iran. Major cities and military infrastructure sites came under attack, including military bases and command centres. In response, Iran launched missile strikes on the territory of Israel, as well as on several other countries in the region — including facilities and airspace in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria.

Iranian state media reported that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of the strikes. According to official statements from Tehran, the attack occurred while he was at his working residence.

As of March 9, the situation in the region remains extremely tense. The sides continue exchanging statements, and new episodes of escalation are being recorded. Information is being updated as new reports emerge.

Qatari Ministry of Defence said the country was targeted on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, by five ballistic missiles launched from the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that all projectiles were successfully intercepted.

In a statement posted on X, the ministry said Qatar’s armed forces neutralised the five missiles and that no casualties or material damage were reported.

Iran carried out a new round of retaliatory strikes targeting US military bases and sites in Israel, including Tel Aviv and the city of Beit Shemesh west of Jerusalem, according to a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iranian state television reported that the IRGC said the 35th wave of Operation True Promise 4 involved the launch of Fattah, Emad, Kheibar and Qadr missiles.

Coalition forces in the Kurdistan region of Iraq shot down three explosive-laden drones over Erbil on Monday, the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service said.

Two drones targeted the United Arab Emirates consulate and one targeted Erbil airport, near a US base, according to video and witnesses, CNN reports.

Debris from one drone fell near the consulate but there were no casualties, the service added.

The UAE’s foreign ministry said the attack had caused “material damage” but that no injuries were reported.

“The United Arab Emirates has called on the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to investigate the circumstances surrounding this attack, identify those responsible, and take all necessary measures to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable,” it said.

According to the Bahrain Ministry of Interior, one person has been killed and eight others injured as a result of Iran’s strike on Bahrain.

US President Donald Trump said in a phone interview with CBS that American operations in Iran are progressing very far ahead of schedule compared to the initially estimated timeline of four to five weeks.

"I think the war is very complete, pretty much," the president stressed, speaking from his Doral, Florida, golf club. 

"[Iran has] no navy, no communications, they've got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones," he added.

Speaking about Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, Trump added that he does not have a message for him.

"I have no message for him. None, whatsoever," the president said, noting that he has someone else in mind to lead the country.

Israeli forces have attacked more than 700 targets belonging to the Shiite movement Hezbollah in Lebanon during the ongoing operation, including 35 high-rise buildings in the Beirut area, Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin said at a briefing.

Defrin stated that troops of the Northern Command are conducting intensive offensive operations against Hezbollah around the clock and that more than 700 Hezbollah targets have been struck so far, including over 100 sites belonging to the Radwan forces.

The IDF general added that Israeli forces also hit more than 50 targets in Beirut, including 35 multi-story buildings.

Iran plans to increase both the intensity and scale of its missile attacks, according to the commander of the aerospace division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Majid Mousavi, who heads the force responsible for Iran’s missile and drone capabilities, said the country will expand the power and reach of its missile launches in future operations. His comments were reported by Reuters, citing Iranian state media.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had carried out a new wave of airstrikes targeting military infrastructure linked to Iran across several provinces.

According to the IDF, dozens of Israeli Air Force fighter jets conducted strikes using more than 170 munitions in the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan and Shiraz. The operation was based on intelligence gathered by Israeli military services.

In Tehran, the Israeli military said it targeted a command center associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, the external operations branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

Kamal Kharazi, a senior adviser to Ali Khamenei said Iran currently sees no possibility of negotiations with the United States and Israel, accusing Washington of previously deceiving the Islamic republic.

Kharazi stated that he no longer saw any room for diplomacy, arguing that Donald Trump had misled other countries and failed to honour his commitments.

President Donald Trump told New York Post that the United States is “nowhere near” ordering troops into Iran to secure nuclear material at the underground enrichment facility in Isfahan, as speculation grows about how Washington plans to respond to the country’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

“We haven’t made any decision on that. We’re nowhere near it,” Trump said regarding reported discussions of a potential US deployment to the facility near the ancient Persian capital.

Trump also expressed displeasure with Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, who over the weekend replaced his father, Ali Khamenei, as the head of Iran’s theocratic government, but did not repeat his prior threat to target any successor who assumed power without US approval.

“Not going to tell you. Not going to tell you. I’m not happy with him,” Trump said when asked about his plans regarding the younger Khamenei.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on March 9 that the United States’ military mission in Iran is focused on destroying the country’s missile capabilities, including its missiles, launchers, production facilities, and naval assets.

Speaking at a State Department ceremony, Rubio emphasised that the mission is to "destroy the ability of this regime to launch missiles — both by destroying their missiles and their launchers — destroy the factories that make these missiles and destroy their navy."

He said the United States is committed to stopping this cycle and ensuring that Iran cannot use detentions or military capabilities to threaten American security.

US and Israeli air forces have reportedly destroyed 10 of Iran’s 18 main air bases since the start of a coordinated military operation, significantly reducing Tehran’s tactical aviation capabilities, according to data from the Israeli defence research centre Alma.

The targeted facilities include some of Iran’s largest air bases, such as Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport, as well as sites in Tabriz, Shiraz, Konarak, Isfahan, Kermanshah, and Zahedan. The strikes reportedly damaged runways and destroyed fighter jets, transport aircraft, air defence positions, hangars, and warehouses.

In addition to the primary air bases, nine smaller airfields capable of supporting tactical aircraft were also targeted during the campaign.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has carried out missile strikes on five US military bases across the Middle East, as well as on Israeli targets near Tel Aviv and Haifa, according to Iranian military sources.

The strikes were described as part of the 31st wave of the IRGC’s Operation “True Promise 4.” The IRGC Aerospace Force reportedly employed Ghadr, Khorramshahr, and Heibar-Shekan missiles to hit the designated targets, Tasnim reports. 

Officials highlighted that the operation included an attack on the area housing the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet.

Iranian authorities emphasised that the strikes were “powerful” and targeted strategic U.S. and Israeli military positions.

The Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) has said that its air defence systems have successfully intercepted multiple waves of attacks attributed to Iranian forces, destroying 102 ballistic missiles and 171 unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the kingdom since hostilities began.

The BDF General Command praised the combat readiness and operational performance of its personnel, emphasising that Bahrain’s airspace remains under protection despite the ongoing threats, BNA reports. 

Authorities urged the public to remain indoors and venture out only when necessary, while taking all safety precautions. Citizens were advised to avoid affected areas and suspicious objects, refrain from filming military operations or debris sites, and rely solely on official sources for updates to prevent the spread of unverified information.

The General Command condemned the attacks on civilian sites and private property, describing them as violations of international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter. Officials said the indiscriminate strikes pose a direct threat to regional peace and security.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has carried out the 30th wave of Operation “True Promise-4,” Tasnim News Agency reports, citing the IRGC press service.

According to the report, the operation, codenamed “Ali is the Wali of Allah,” targeted US military bases in the region and northern Israel.

During the operation, liquid- and solid-fuel missiles — Khorramshahr missile, Fattah missile, and Kheibar missile — as well as strategic drones were used.

The IRGC stated that the operation was carried out with “100 per cent success.”

As a result of an Iranian drone attack on Sitra Island, 32 people were injured. Local media, citing the Bahrain Ministry of Health, report that four of the wounded, including children, are in serious condition.
