India confirms death of two sailors in ongoing Middle East conflict
India’s foreign minister confirmed that two Indian mariners have been killed amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar addressed India’s parliament to announce the fatalities, noting that the sailors were employed on merchant vessels operating near the conflict zone, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
He added that one sailor remains missing. Details about the specific ships involved were not disclosed.
“This ongoing conflict is an issue of particular concern for India,” Jaishankar stated, highlighting that nearly 10 million Indians reside and work in Gulf countries.
He emphasised that the region is critical to India’s energy security and trade, representing roughly $200 billion in annual commerce.
Jaishankar reiterated India’s support for peace in the region and called for a renewed commitment to dialogue and diplomacy.
“We advocate de-escalation, restraint and ensuring the safety of civilians,” he said.
