South Caucasus expert: Peace agenda delivers results on Armenia-Azerbaijan border
Farhad Mammadov, Chairman of the Centre for South Caucasus Studies, has said that a recent visit to the Armenia-Azerbaijan border demonstrated the practical effectiveness of a peace-focused agenda.
Speaking to Caliber.Az, Mammadov described the trip as part of the "Peace Bridge" initiative. He and other participants crossed into Armenia via a delimited and demarcated section of the land border, where border guards from both countries stood without weapons and actively cooperated.
“This was our third meeting under the "Peace Bridge" initiative, and it stood out because we were able, on the ground, to witness how effective a peaceful approach can be when border guards from both nations operate in collaboration,” he said.
The visit coincided with a bilateral roundtable in Tsakhkadzor on February 13–14, which brought together members of civil society from both Armenia and Azerbaijan. In addition to the five core members of the initiative, 15 representatives from each country also participated.
“The roundtable was held in an expanded format, allowing for lively discussion across four sessions. We explored a wide range of issues relating to the peace agenda and considered the role of civil society at this stage of the peace process and in the future. Both the trip and the meeting were well organised, with high-level security provided, and all events proceeded according to schedule,” Mammadov added.
