South Korea faces maritime standstill as 26 ships blocked near Hormuz
South Korea reported that 26 of its vessels and 183 crew members are stranded near the Strait of Hormuz.
On March 17, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Park Il said officials are in close contact with port authorities in neighbouring countries to facilitate the delivery of food and other supplies, according to Associated Press (AP).
Park added that if the situation worsens, additional unspecified measures are planned.
“The government will maintain close communication with the US side and conduct a close and careful review of the issue, taking into account various factors and the changing regional situation,” Park noted.
Seoul is exercising caution in discussing support for US efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after President Donald Trump called on several governments, including South Korea, to deploy naval forces.
