Spain condemns Iran’s drone strikes on Azerbaijan
Spain has strongly condemned the recent Iranian drone attacks on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the violation of Turkish airspace by an Iranian drone.
In an official statement, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks were “totally unjustifiable under international law” and represented a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty and integrity” of the affected countries.
“The Spanish Government strongly condemns Iran's latest attacks in Turkey and Azerbaijan, which come on top of attacks against Gulf Cooperation Council member countries, particularly Qatar, where eight people were injured today, and reiterates its solidarity with these friendly countries,” the ministry added.
The statement further warned that “these indiscriminate attacks by Iran,” including those targeting civilian objects, “increase the risk of escalation” in the region.
Spain concluded by reaffirming its commitment to diplomacy, saying, “Spain reiterates its commitment to a return to diplomacy and dialogue for urgent de-escalation, which will enable work to be done to ensure the security and stability of the region.”
