Sweden prosecuting local resident for fundraising for PKK/YPG terrorists
A court hearing has begun in Sweden in the case of a local resident who collected funds for the terrorist organization PKK/YPG.
The defendant is accused of "terrorism financing, attempted extortion and armed attack," Anadolu reports, citing state radio SR.
This is the first time a trial of this kind for terrorist financing has been held in a Scandinavian country.
State television SVT reported that the defendant was arrested back in January after he tried to collect money from restaurant owners at gunpoint under the pretext of helping the terrorist organization PKK.
"The scope of the investigation is expanding as the investigation progresses," prosecutor Hans Irman, who prepared the indictment, said in this regard.
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström, in an interview with Dagens Nyheter in April, called the terrorist organization PKK/YPG "the main reason for the disagreement with Türkiye over Sweden's membership in NATO.
