Sweden warns of power outages in winter
Lota Medelius-Bredhe, CEO of the Swedish electricity transmission system operator Svenska Kraftnät, has warned about high prices and the risk of a power outage this winter.
She made the remarks in an interview with Dagens Nyheter newspaper on September 10.
"We cannot rule out that we may find ourselves in situations when it will be coldest, early in the morning or late in the evening, when in the worst case we will have to resort to disconnecting (electricity)," Medelius-Bredhe said, specifying that electricity will be turned off "within an hour or two".
She explained that the country imports electricity and Sweden's need for imports in a normal winter is about 1400 MW.
According to her forecasts, in winter electricity prices will be "very high", which will lead to the fact that buyers will adapt and reduce their own consumption.
