Syrian internal security forces in Yabroud, Rif Dimashq, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of landmines into Lebanon, arresting four individuals involved and neutralising a fifth, state media reported.
Khaled Abbas Taktouk, head of Yabroud’s Internal Security Directorate, said the operation led to the seizure of 1,250 armed military mines intended for Hezbollah in Lebanon, Caliber.Az reports, citing Syrian media.
“The specialised units carried out a carefully planned raid that resulted in the full confiscation of the shipment,” Taktouk said. “Four suspects were arrested, while a fifth was neutralised during clashes with security patrols.”
Taktouk added that the operation followed detailed investigations and continuous surveillance, which identified the suspects and tracked them to a smuggling site in Al-Jabba, northern Rif Dimashq.
All confiscated materials have been secured, and the arrested individuals have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation, with legal proceedings expected to follow.
