Taliban-Pakistan border clash in Kunar leaves two dead
A border clash with Pakistani forces in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province left two Taliban fighters dead, according to local sources, marking the latest sign of escalating tensions between the two sides.
The incident took place on June 15 in the Takht-e-Khor area of Shigal district, near the disputed Durand Line, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Local sources reported that violence broke out after Pakistani troops attempted to establish a new security outpost in the area.
The Taliban fighters, identified as Shir Alam and Musi, were killed in the exchange of fire.
Officials in Kunar have yet to state the incident.
This latest skirmish adds to a series of confrontations along the Afghan-Pakistani border, where disputes over territorial boundaries and security infrastructure have repeatedly sparked violence.
The Durand Line—a historic source of friction—continues to be a flashpoint between the Taliban government and Islamabad.
The growing frequency of such clashes is fuelling concerns over regional instability and hindering efforts toward meaningful diplomatic engagement.
Analysts warn that the absence of robust conflict resolution mechanisms and rising mistrust may further strain the already fraught relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with implications for broader security in South and Central Asia.
