Thousands protest in Argentina after young women tortured by drug traffickers
Thousands took to the streets of Buenos Aires to protest the torture of young women by drug traffickers, TASS reports.
The demonstration included both civic activists and ordinary citizens, predominantly women, and proceeded without major incidents.
Protesters marched in a single column from the square in front of the presidential palace to the Congress building, carrying signs demanding justice and displaying photos of 20-year-olds Morena Verdi and Brenda del Castillo, and 15-year-old Lara Gutierrez.
The three girls went missing on September 19 and were found dead five days later in the Buenos Aires suburb of Florencio Varela.
According to a forensic report, the girls had been tortured. Authorities say drug traffickers carried out the attack as an act of revenge, broadcasting the abuse in a private social media group. The alleged mastermind, Peruvian citizen Tony Valverde Victoriano, is currently wanted by authorities.
