Time: Trump says US may send ground troops to Iran
US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that Washington may consider deploying ground troops to Iran if the current campaign fails to achieve its objectives or if the Iranian authorities maintain control by suppressing unrest.
Trump did not rule out the possibility of sending U.S. ground forces into Iranian territory, such a move could come if Iran’s leadership endures the conflict or violently suppresses potential protests, according to a report by Time.
“If the regime endures, or violently suppresses unrest again, the U.S. could face a decision it has tried to avoid: whether to send in ground forces to finish the job,” the magazine reported.
Trump said he believes the campaign could achieve its objectives within several weeks, though he acknowledged the timeline might extend.
"Trump did not rule out this possibility. He said that, in his opinion, the campaign's objectives could be achieved within four to five weeks, although he admits that the timing could be delayed," the publication notes.
The U.S. president also indicated that military operations would continue until Washington meets its goals.
“I have no time limits on anything,” he says. “I want to get it done.”
