Tornadoes, dust storms, and fires: 34 dead in US weather disaster PHOTO
At least 34 people have died as powerful storms swept across the United States, triggering tornadoes, dust storms, and wildfires.
In Kansas, eight people were killed in a highway pile-up involving 50 vehicles due to a dust storm in Sherman County. Texas also reported four deaths from dust storm-related crashes, Caliber.Az reports, citing Western media.
Missouri was hit hardest by tornadoes, with 12 fatalities, while Mississippi reported six deaths. Arkansas confirmed three fatalities, and Oklahoma—where a state of emergency was declared—recorded one.
Authorities have issued tornado warnings across Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Indiana, and Kentucky. Nearly 300 homes have been damaged or destroyed across 689 square kilometers in Oklahoma, where over 130 fires were reported.
Power outages affected more than 282,000 households in the Midwest and South. The National Weather Service warned of severe thunderstorms, deadly flash floods, and baseball-sized hail, with winds up to 80 mph expected from Texas to the Canadian border.
