Trump administration asserts strong stance against Iran's nuclear development
The Trump administration has reaffirmed its firm opposition to the development of nuclear weapons by Iran.
US Vice President J.D. Vance made this clear in a recent conversation with journalists in the halls of the US Congress, emphasizing that President Donald Trump's policy remains unchanged in its commitment to prevent nuclear proliferation, particularly in Iran, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"President [Trump's] policy is very clear: we cannot tolerate nuclear proliferation, especially in Iran. This will be the policy of the [current US] administration. This has been [Washington's past policy], including under the first Trump administration," Vance stated.
This declaration follows recent reports by Bloomberg that Russia had reportedly agreed to assist the Trump administration in facilitating dialogue with Tehran over Iran's nuclear program. According to sources, Trump raised this matter with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation on February 12.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Moscow supports the idea of resolving issues between Washington and Tehran through negotiations, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic engagement.
The Trump administration’s ongoing efforts reflect its longstanding stance on preventing nuclear proliferation and ensuring that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons. As tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear ambitions continue, the US appears determined to maintain pressure on Tehran, while seeking international support for negotiations to address the issue.
