Lithuania monitors Board of Peace initiative, no formal invitation yet
Asta Skaisgirytė, Lithuania’s presidential advisor on foreign policy, confirmed that the country has not yet received an official invitation to join the Board of Peace.
She stressed that Vilnius is monitoring the initiative carefully before making any decision, Caliber.Az reports via Lithuanian media.
Skaisgirytė noted that questions remain about how the Board will operate in practice and what its final structure will be. Doubts are shared not only in Lithuania but across other European capitals.
“Not only Lithuania, but Europeans in general have questions about how this will work. The idea may sound nice, but the devil is in the details,” she said.
She added that the initiative resembles the creation of a new international organization, yet its status and operational mechanisms remain uncertain.
We are not rushing. We are evaluating and observing. At this point, to say outright that it does not suit us would be irrational," Skaisgirytė said, adding that Lithuania would carefully assess how the Board functions and seriously consider joining if an official invitation is received.
The Board of Peace was launched on January 22 in Davos by US President Donald Trump, initially aiming to address the Gaza conflict, with plans to expand to other international crises. Membership is set for three years, and countries contributing $1 billion can obtain permanent status.
