Syrian president heads to Moscow for talks with Russian counterpart
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on January 28.
No further details about the visit have been disclosed, and neither Syrian nor Russian authorities have issued official statements regarding the meeting, TelevisionSyria reports.
Al-Sharaa previously visited Moscow on October 15 of last year, marking his first trip to Russia since taking office following the ouster of former President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024.
Talks during that visit focused on boosting cooperation in the economy, food security and energy sectors.
Both sides also stressed the need to preserve stability in Syria and the wider region and to deepen the countries’ longstanding partnership.
Bashar al-Assad, who had ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, left the country and relocated to Russia on December 8, 2024, effectively bringing an end to the Ba’ath Party regime that had governed Syria since 1963.
