Belarus official: Kyiv must end conflict as "thousands of Ukrainians die daily"

27 January 2026 15:40

Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich has stated that Ukraine’s leadership should make every effort to end the conflict with Russia, as thousands of Ukrainians are dying every day.

“[The Ukrainian leadership] must do everything possible to stop the war and the deaths of its people—the long-suffering Ukrainian people. It does not think about this, while every day thousands and thousands of Ukrainians die in this conflict. Not a single politician’s children are fighting on the front line—that is why the war continues,” he said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Belarus media.

At the same time, Volfovich noted that Belarus is taking measures to prevent the conflict from spreading to its territory. “The focus is not on increasing the size of the Armed Forces or harming the country’s economy, but on the quality of soldiers’ training. We adhere to the decisions adopted 30 years ago on the creation and development of the Armed Forces and other components of the state’s military organisation,” he explained.

The Security Council secretary also drew attention to Western countries, which, in his view, are sacrificing citizens’ well-being for the sake of militarisation.

“The military-political situation in the world is developing very rapidly. Against the backdrop of the historic struggle between the West and the East, conflicts are flaring up, while major powers—the United States in particular—are violating all principles of the security architecture, dictating their terms and demonstrating that military force is the decisive argument. The events in Venezuela, Iran, and other hotspots are illustrative. Disregarding everything and ignoring political solutions, the use of military force is today coming to the forefront,” Volfovich said.

He emphasised that Poland and the Baltic states are increasing military budgets, purchasing foreign weapons, and building military facilities near the Belarusian border. In particular, he pointed to a training ground in Lithuania that will be located just 8 km from the border.

“Instead of sowing an extra field, they are building training grounds, bases, arsenals, and depots, expanding the production of ammunition and unmanned aerial vehicles—demonstrating far from peaceful intentions,” he concluded.
