Trump announces FBI director nominee
US president-elect Donald Trump, who is continuing to assemble his team, has nominated Kash Patel for the position of FBI director.
Trump announced Patel's nomination on social media, describing him as a lawyer, investigator, and advocate for the 'America First' agenda, who has dedicated his career to exposing corruption, defending justice, and protecting the American people, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The future US president also announced that he has nominated Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, for the position of US Ambassador to France.
“I am pleased to nominate Charles Kushner, of New Jersey, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to France. He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
Patel has previously advocated for stripping the FBI of its intelligence functions and purging its ranks of any employees who refuse to support Trump's agenda.
He was questioned as part of the investigation into the January 2021 Capitol riot. Patel is a proponent of the far-right conspiracy theory of the "deep state," which suggests that government officials acted politically against Trump's plans during his first term.
Currently, the position of FBI Director is held by Christopher Wray, who was appointed to the role by Trump in 2017 during his first presidential term. During Wray's tenure, the bureau conducted a court-authorized search of Trump's estate in Florida. According to US law, the FBI director is required to serve a ten-year term to protect the agency from political influence.
