Trump announces Israel-Iran ceasefire now in effect
US President Donald Trump declared that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran had come into effect, urging all parties to respect the truce.
“The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it! Donald J. Trump, President of the United States!” Trump wrote in all capital letters on Truth Social, Caliber.Az reports.
Earlier, Trump claimed that both Israel and Iran reached out to him "almost simultaneously" with messages expressing a desire for peace, despite ongoing military tensions. His statement came as the Israeli Defense Forces reported detecting new missile launches from Iranian territory early on June 24.
According to diplomatic sources, the ceasefire initiative followed a US-proposed peace plan that was coordinated in advance with Israeli authorities. After securing Israel’s agreement, Trump reportedly asked Qatar to help mediate with Tehran. Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani subsequently held talks with Iranian officials and obtained what was described as Tehran’s conditional consent to the truce.
However, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that "as of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations."
