Israel advances death penalty bill for terrorists

Israel’s Knesset National Security Committee has approved a bill introducing the death penalty for terrorists in its second and third readings, paving the way for a final vote in the plenary session expected next week, according to foreign media.

The committee removed more than 2,000 reservations that had been submitted to the draft law, significantly accelerating its progress.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir described the legislation as one of the most important in recent years, stating that it is “intended to protect our children.”

Discussions on the bill began last year, and it was approved in its first reading in early November 2025. At the time, Hamas condemned the proposed legislation.
