Trump confident Putin ready to strike deal on Ukraine conflict
US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate a deal to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Trump shared his views with journalists, stating that he believes Putin is prepared to reach an agreement, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Trump further mentioned that he had recently spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and noted that the United States is making substantial progress with Kyiv. While he did not specify the nature of the potential deal, Trump reiterated that Putin is willing to strike a deal.
However, sources within the Trump administration advised against reaching out to Putin unless Russia commits to a complete ceasefire. According to NBC News, two officials confirmed that a call between Trump and Putin is not scheduled at present.
They cautioned that while the president may decide to initiate contact with the Russian leader, it would not be advisable unless Putin agrees to a full cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.
Previously, Trump had indicated that he plans to speak with Putin this week. He also expressed strong discontent with the Russian president for suggesting that Zelenskyy should step down from his position.
