Trump’s new Security Strategy calls for reset with Russia, sharpens tone on Europe
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has published a new National Security Strategy.
The central idea of the document is the principle of “America First.” Trump presents himself as a “president of peace,” who will adhere to a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, per Euronews.
The document describes Europe as a continent in decline and characterises migration policy as a threat of a “civilizational catastrophe.” It also formalises a course toward “stabilising” relations with Russia, emphasising the need to reduce tensions and identify areas of cooperation.
The strategy claims that European countries risk “erasing themselves from the face of civilisation” due to migration and calls for “cultivating resistance to Europe’s current trajectory from within European countries.”
The text also contains accusations against European governments of “undermining democratic processes,” along with criticism of supranational institutions — including the European Union — which, according to the strategy’s authors, “limit political freedom and sovereignty.”
