Trump says Ukraine’s top officials support US peace plan, except Zelenskyy
US President Donald Trump claimed that almost the entire Ukrainian leadership supports the Washington-proposed plan to end the war, except President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
He made the remarks while addressing the press at Washington, noting that the draft agreement has received approval from Zelenskyy’s inner circle, Caliber.Az reports, citing the White House social media account.
“I thought that we were very close with Russia to having a deal. I thought we were very close with Ukraine to having a deal. In fact, other than President Zelenskyy, his people loved the concept of the deal,” he said.
Trump noted that the US plan consists of “four or five points,” without specifying their content. He acknowledged that the negotiation process remains difficult, as the document involves territorial issues.
The president also compared diplomatic efforts to his own business experience, emphasising that achieving a ceasefire is “a thousand times harder” than closing a major real estate deal.
The United States has circulated a multi‑point peace proposal aimed at ending the Russia‑Ukraine war. The draft reportedly includes terms that would require Ukraine to make territorial concessions, restrict its military size, and formally renounce joining NATO — provisions that have drawn strong criticism from Kyiv and many European capitals.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has publicly stated Ukraine is working on the US proposal while insisting any agreement must ensure a “dignified peace” that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
European leaders have pushed back on key elements of the US draft, stressing that borders should not be changed by force and that Ukraine must retain the ability to defend itself.
