Trump sets deadline for Hamas to agree to Gaza ceasefire deal
US President Donald Trump has issued a firm ultimatum to Hamas, stating the militant group has only “three or four days” to respond to his proposed 20-point peace deal aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House as he departed for a meeting with top military officials in Virginia, Trump stressed the urgency of the situation and ruled out extensive negotiations, Sky News reports.
“We're just waiting for Hamas,” the president said. He emphasized that there is “not much” room for negotiation and insisted on the return of all hostages and a commitment to “good behaviour.”
“If Hamas rejected,” Trump warned, “I would let Israel go and do what they have to do.”
The president’s remarks signal a tightening of pressure on Hamas to accept the US-brokered peace initiative, which has already received backing from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and key regional players including Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye.
The 20-point plan includes a phased ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of all hostages, and the deployment of a multinational Arab and Muslim peacekeeping force in Gaza to oversee stabilization efforts.
