Trump to hold talks with Japan on trade tariffs
US President Donald Trump has said that he will hold a meeting with representatives of the Japanese side on April 16 to discuss the trade tariffs.
“Japan is coming in today to negotiate Tariffs, the cost of military support, and ‘TRADE FAIRNESS.’ I will attend the meeting, along with Treasury & Commerce Secretaries. Hopefully something can be worked out which is good (GREAT!) for Japan and the USA!” Caliber.Az quotes Trump as saying on his social network, Truth Social.
Japan, a longstanding ally and major trading partner of the U.S., has been particularly impacted by the recent tariffs of the U.S. Washington announced a blanket 10% tariff on Japanese imports, alongside a 25% tariff specifically targeting the automotive sector—Japan’s largest export category to the U.S. market. Further punitive tariffs, reportedly reaching 24% on various goods, were announced in late March but temporarily suspended for 90 days to allow for bilateral negotiations.
