UK, Germany sign $70 million joint artillery deal

The United Kingdom and Germany have signed a contract for the joint purchase of mobile artillery systems worth $70 million (£52 million).

The UK will receive demonstration versions of the RCH 155 self-propelled howitzer, capable of eight rounds per minute, firing on the move, and traveling 700 kilometers without refuelling, while two additional units will be provided to Germany for testing, Caliber.Az reports, citing the UK Ministry of Defence.

The joint procurement highlights growing defence cooperation between the UK and Germany under the Trinity House agreement signed in October 2024, a landmark pact committing both nations to military collaboration.

The RCH 155 provides a long-term solution for the British Army’s Mobile Fires Platform needs. Currently, soldiers use 14 Archer artillery systems as a short-term replacement for the AS90 guns supplied to Ukraine.

According to the ministry, under the contract, the UK and Germany will share test data and facilities, ensuring both countries receive world-class equipment. This collaboration accelerates procurement timelines, lowers costs, and provides greater value for taxpayers while boosting capabilities for both Armed Forces.
