Moscow court sentences former Russian diplomat to 12-year term over US spying
Moscow City Court sentenced former Russian Foreign Ministry employee Arseniy Konovalov to 12 years in prison for cooperating with US intelligence.
According to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), during a long-term overseas assignment in the United States, Arseniy Konovalov, while serving as an employee of the Russian Foreign Ministry, voluntarily provided classified information obtained through his position to US intelligence in exchange for monetary compensation, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
Arseniy Konovalov was a career civilian employee of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, posted abroad on a long‑term diplomatic assignment in the United States, where he worked for the Russian diplomatic mission before his arrest.
He was detained by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in March 2024 on suspicion of cooperating with a foreign intelligence service and subsequently charged with high treason under Russian law after allegedly passing state secrets to US intelligence.
