Zelenskyy discusses preparations for Trump meeting with UK PM Starmer
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a separate phone call with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of his meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Writing on X, Zelenskyy said he began his morning in Florida, where he is due to meet Trump, with a conversation with Starmer, Caliber.Az reports.
“We discussed preparations for the meeting with President Trump, as well as all our contacts with European partners,” he noted.
The Ukrainian leader also briefed the British prime minister on the front-line situation and the impact of Russian strikes.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on December 28 to discuss a high-level peace proposal aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
The meeting will focus on finalizing a nearly completed 20-point peace plan, including security guarantees for Ukraine and economic cooperation.
Security guarantees remain a central point of contention, with Zelenskyy stressing that Ukraine cannot move forward toward peace or elections without strong assurances from the US and Western allies.
Discussions are also expected to cover territorial issues such as Donbas and the future of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Russia has intensified missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities in the days leading up to the talks, adding pressure on Kyiv’s negotiating position and underscoring continued hostilities on the front lines even as diplomacy progresses.
