Trump sounds alarm over potential massacre in Ukraine, cites WWII scale

14 March 2025 18:37

US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning following a recent telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump shared details of the conversation on his social media platform, Truth Social, expressing grave concern over the potential escalation of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports.

In his post, Trump described the situation as one that could lead to a "horrible massacre" of unprecedented scale, warning that the violence could rival some of the most devastating events in modern history.

“We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end — but, at this very moment, thousands of Ukrainian troops are completely surrounded by the Russian military, and in a very bad and vulnerable position. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!” President Trump noted.

Trump’s plea comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts by the US to push for a resolution to the war, with Kremlin officials confirming that Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, recently engaged in “secret” discussions with Russian officials in Moscow.

“Additional information was provided to the Russian side. Putin asked Witkoff to convey information and additional messages to President Trump,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

Witkoff’s Moscow visit followed Putin’s response to Ukraine’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. While the Russian leader did not fully endorse Kyiv’s plan, he expressed a willingness to discuss “issues” with Trump.

The timing of Trump’s statement also raised questions about the nature of his engagement with Putin, particularly after Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov indicated that no direct phone call had taken place between the two leaders on Thursday. The Kremlin stated that a decision on a potential call would be made after Witkoff relayed the discussions to Trump.
