Trump weighs restarting Iran war under “Operation Sledgehammer” codename
The US army is considering formally renaming its military campaign against Iran to “Operation Sledgehammer” if the current ceasefire is violated and President Donald Trump decides to resume major combat operations, according to two US officials.
Discussions about potentially replacing “Operation Epic Fury” with “Operation Sledgehammer” indicate the seriousness with which the administration is weighing the possibility of restarting the war, which began on February 28, Caliber.Az reports, citing NBC News.
The move could also allow Trump to argue that he is resetting a 60-day clock that requires congressional approval for military action, according to the report.
A Pentagon spokesperson directed inquiries regarding the matter to the White House, which did not respond to a request for comment.
Last week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that Operation Epic Fury “is over.”
“The president notified Congress, we’re done with that stage of it,” Rubio said during a White House briefing. “Operation Epic Fury is concluded. We achieved the objectives of that operation.”
