Turkish, German leaders discuss Iran–Israel standoff, regional stability in phone call
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Directorate of Communications.
The two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, bilateral relations, and broader regional developments, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
President Erdoğan underlined the importance of resolving disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme through diplomatic negotiations.
He warned that the recent Israeli attacks on Iran had sharply escalated regional tensions, posing a serious threat to stability and security.
Highlighting the risks of a deepening cycle of violence, Erdoğan stressed that the conflict could have far-reaching consequences for both the region and Europe, including potential refugee flows and the risk of nuclear contamination.
The Turkish President said Türkiye was actively working to de-escalate tensions and restore calm and pledged that these efforts would continue.
