Turkish VP: Peace between Baku, Yerevan just around the corner
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has said that peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia is“just around the corner.
Speaking to journalists, Yılmaz said Türkiye supports initiatives aimed at securing a lasting settlement between Baku and Yerevan, noting that both sides have made significant progress in recent negotiations. He added that achieving peace could transform the region’s geopolitical and economic role, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“It can be said that peace between the two countries is just around the corner. Once peace is achieved, the South Caucasus, which holds great strategic importance, will begin to play a different role at both the regional and global levels. In particular, the development of the Middle Corridor and the opening of the Zangezur Corridor will contribute to the growth of transit traffic. Overall, establishing balance in the region will ensure both increased security and greater prosperity,” Yılmaz said.
At the same time, Yılmaz emphasised that Türkiye and Azerbaijan maintain close cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in defence. He said Ankara intends to further strengthen collaboration in the defence industry, describing bilateral ties as extending beyond a strategic partnership toward a deeper alliance.
“In this context, we have strong ties in all areas, and our alliance relationship will go beyond strategic partnership. In addition, Türkiye and Azerbaijan are closely connected in the field of defense industry. We will continue to develop this cooperation,” he added.
