Türkiye marks 108th anniversary of Baku’s liberation

An event marking the 108th anniversary of Baku’s liberation from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation was held at the Shusha Congress Centre under the Azerbaijani Embassy in Türkiye.

As part of the event, a ceremony was held to unveil a monument dedicated to the Caucasian Islamic Army, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Turkish National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler addressed the ceremony, saying that the Caucasian Islamic Army’s liberation of Baku had laid the groundwork for strengthening Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and ensuring its territorial integrity at the time.

A subsequent event entitled One Nation, Two States: Brotherhood Sealed in Blood in 1918 was held at the Shusha Congress Centre, where one of the organisers, TADİV’s Chairwoman Aygün Attar, delivered the opening remarks.

She described the liberation of Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation as one of the glorious pages in Azerbaijan’s 20th-century history.

Speaking at the event, Şamil Ayrım, head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM), stressed that Türkiye and Azerbaijan had provided each other with both political and military support throughout history.

Azerbaijani Embassy Counsellor Eldar Aliyev also described the Caucasian Islamic Army’s liberation of Baku from occupation as an important event in Azerbaijan’s history of independence.

Two video clips prepared by Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence on the Caucasian Islamic Army’s liberation of Baku from occupation and the Second Karabakh War were then screened.

Following the official part of the event, a concert programme entitled “Çırpınırdı Qara dəniz” was presented with the participation of soloists from the Ankara Opera and Ballet Theatre.
