Türkiye appoints first Armenian-origin district governor
For the first time in Türkiye's history, an Armenian has been appointed governor of one of the Turkish districts.
Thus, 27-year-old Berk Acar was appointed governor of Denizli Province's Babadag District, Türkiye's Hurriyet newspaper reports citing Agos newspaper published in Istanbul.
"Acar passed several rounds of exams to be appointed to this position. Acar ranked 72nd during the written exam, in which more than 13,000 people took part," the report says.
"However, the decision about his appointment was made proceeding from the results of an oral exam. Some 472 candidates took part in it," the newspaper said.
According to the newspaper, the newly-appointed official graduated from the Sahakyan Nunyan Armenian High School in Istanbul, as well as the law faculty at Istanbul Bilgi University.
