Türkiye's MoD chief arrives at Iraq border over fighting with PKK
Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler arrived at the border with Iraq amid fierce fighting with Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants.
"National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, who led operations from the Air Force Operations Center overnight, travelled to the Iraqi border at first light. Minister Yasar Guler is accompanied by the command staff of the Turkish Armed Forces," Gazeta.ru reports.
It is noted that Guler is accompanied by the command staff of the Turkish Armed Forces.
Earlier it was reported that the Turkish Ministry of Defense in social networks announced a military operation in northern Iraq against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) banned in the country after the death of twelve of its soldiers. Before that, it was reported that six Turkish soldiers were killed in northern Iraq as a result of an attack by PKK militants.
The Turkish Defense Ministry reported that six more soldiers were killed and one was wounded during a clash with PKK militants in the area of Operation Claw Castle. The ministry noted that, according to preliminary data, 13 terrorists were neutralized during the clash.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the situation in Transcaucasia.
