Death toll rises to seven in Russia's Saratov gas blast
Rescue teams have recovered the body of another victim from the rubble of a residential building in Saratov, following a gas explosion.
The update was shared with TASS by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
“During debris removal, rescuers discovered the body of another deceased individual. This brings the confirmed death toll to seven, including one child,” the ministry reported.
According to the regional division of EMERCOM, the latest victim was identified as a woman.
The explosion occurred on July 25 in the stairwell of a multi-story building located at 2 Blinova Street in Saratov. Clean-up efforts at the site remain ongoing.
Emergency responders from both the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the regional rescue teams worked overnight to continue the operation. Over 400 personnel have been mobilised for the effort.
Governor Roman Busargin has stated that rescue operations are expected to continue at least until the morning of July 27.
