Türkiye stresses importance of environmental agenda at TURKPA meeting
Addressing the 13th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) in Baku, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmus, emphasized the significance of including environmental issues in the agenda.
Kurtulmus highlighted Türkiye's commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and environmental challenges. He underscored the importance of recognizing human activities as the primary driver of climate change and advocated for establishing a fair and balanced approach to resource usage, Trend reports.
The speaker also emphasized that the strengthening of the Turkic world contributes to global peace.
The meeting, held under the theme "Green horizons for the Turkic world: the role of parliaments in the implementation of the green agenda," brought together representatives from Turkic-speaking countries to discuss environmental sustainability and parliamentary cooperation.
Additionally, a meeting of secretaries general of parliaments took place on the sidelines of the plenary session, further facilitating dialogue and collaboration among Turkic states.
Speaker of Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Numan Kurtulmus, Chairman of the Majilis of the Kazakh Parliament Yerlan Koshanov, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Norbaeva, President of the National Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Zorlu Töre, and Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Márta Mátrai, representatives of observer organizations, and Turkic organizations attended the meeting.
