TURKPA chairmanship passes to Azerbaijan
The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) has transitioned its chairmanship from Türkiye to Azerbaijan.
The decision was formalized during the 13th session of the Assembly's Council on June 6, Caliber.Az reports.
Numan Kurtulmush, Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, officially handed over the leadership to Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament).
TURKPA is an inter-parliamentary organization established in 2009 to promote cooperation between Turkic-speaking nations. Member states include Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and Hungary (observer state). The chairmanship rotates among member parliaments.
This transfer of leadership signifies a new chapter for TURKPA, with Azerbaijan assuming a pivotal role in guiding the organization's activities for the coming period. It's expected that Azerbaijan will set its own priorities and focus areas for collaboration among member states.
