Azerbaijan repatriates 23 citizens from Syria in coordinated operation
Azerbaijan has repatriated 23 of its citizens from Syria as part of phased and coordinated government measures, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
According to the ministry, the group returned on June 7, 9, and 11, and includes seven women and 16 children, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Authorities said the process began with the identification of the individuals, including verification of their locations, identities, and citizenship. Azerbaijani diplomatic missions in Syria and Türkiye, along with the Consulate General in Istanbul, coordinated logistical arrangements such as issuing return certificates and providing air tickets.
A government working group comprising representatives of relevant state agencies was also deployed to Syria, where initial medical and psychological screenings were conducted for the returnees.
The Foreign Ministry said further steps will be taken to support the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriated citizens.
It added that Azerbaijan will continue efforts to bring home citizens affected by armed conflicts abroad and ensure their reintegration into society.
