U.S. Army helicopter makes emergency landing near Seoul
A U.S. Army helicopter made an emergency landing in a rice field south of Seoul on Friday, May 15, with no casualties reported, according to police and fire authorities.
The AH-64E Apache aircraft carried out the precautionary landing at 11:52 a.m. in a rice paddy in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, located about 65 kilometres south of the capital, officials told Korean media.
There were two pilots on board at the time of the incident, and neither was injured. Authorities also confirmed that there were no reports of fire or any secondary accidents following the landing.
Police and fire officials said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Preliminary information, based on statements from the pilots, indicates that the helicopter may have experienced engine overheating.
The exact cause of the emergency landing remains under investigation.
